Things to do in the Daintree
Last reviewed · verify live conditions with Queensland Parks
Most first visits revolve around Mossman Gorge or Kulki / Cape Tribulation, plus easy boardwalks. Wildlife and cultural tours are here — and so are crocs, cassowaries and a river you should not swim. Mount Sorrow is a different day. Don’t try to collect every icon on a first day from Cairns.
Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park camping, the Daintree Ferry and the Mossman Gorge shuttle are never affiliated.

First day
Pick one section. Mossman Gorge or Cape Tribulation — not both plus Mount Sorrow on a first day from Cairns.
Swimming
Don’t swim in the Mossman River. Don’t treat Kulki or Noah Beach as a swim stop. Follow official Be Crocwise rules.
Hard walks
Save Mount Sorrow and Manjal Jimalji for a cool, planned day when you’re fit — not after a late ferry.
- 1
Mossman Gorge walks
Half-day · no ferry · Grade 1–3
The default first-timer: Centre, shuttle, granite river and short boardwalks. Do not swim. Cultural walks book only at the Centre.
- 2
Kulki / Cape Tribulation
Icon lookout · ferry required
Rainforest-clad slopes to sand and headland. Formed lookout and boardwalk. Be Crocwise — this is not a swim beach.
- 3
Madja & Dubuji boardwalks
Easy · families · wet-ground days
Rainforest to mangroves and coastal lowland forest. Stay on the boardwalk. Pair with Kulki for an easy day.
- 4
Wildlife — cassowary & forest dragon
Animals · Be cassoWARY
Southern cassowaries can seriously injure or kill. Slow on the road, never feed. Boyd’s forest dragon is the quieter icon. No guaranteed sightings.
- 5
Eastern Kuku Yalanji cultural experiences
Culture · Centre bookings only
Book Ngadiku Dreamtime Walks and other Centre products on mossmangorge.com.au only. We don’t sell those tickets or write cultural stories.
- 6
Mount Sorrow (serious day)
Hard · self-reliant · dry-season mornings
Grade 4 ridge, 7 km return, allow 6 hours. No water, walkers have been lost. Not a Kulki add-on.
- 7
Noah Beach camping
Official camp · never affiliated
The only official in-park camp. Book QPWS. 3.20 m height, no mobile, no fires. Typical wet-season closure.
- 8
Rainforest-meets-reef day (guided option)
Optional · from Cairns or Port Douglas
Tours help if you do not want to drive the ferry. They do not cancel Be Crocwise or park alerts. Official shuttle/ferry/camping stay on official channels.
