Where to stay near the Daintree

The only official in-park camp is Noah Beach (book Queensland Parks only — never affiliated here). For commercial beds, pick the side of the ferry you will actually walk: Port Douglas for Mossman + a Cape day, Cape Tribulation / Cow Bay to sleep north of the river, Mossman or Daintree Village as closer small-town bases, Cairns as the airport hub. Official camping: Queensland Parks camping.

Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park camping, the Daintree Ferry and the Mossman Gorge shuttle are never affiliated.

Official camping & park accommodation

Book only via Queensland Parks for Noah Beach. Height limit about 3.20 m — no caravans, large/high campervans or buses. No mobile, no fires, no showers. Official close-date wording splits: camping page says Friday before Christmas → Good Friday; visiting-safely says first Sunday after New Year’s Day → Good Friday. Check alerts. This site does not affiliate park camping fees or QPWS booking systems.

Port Douglas

Best all-round base: Mossman Gorge in the morning, Cape Tribulation as a dedicated ferry day. Widest hotel choice north of Cairns.

Cape Tribulation

Sleep north of the ferry for rainforest-meets-reef mornings and a Mount Sorrow start without a dawn queue. Limited beds — book ahead in the dry.

Between the ferry and Cape Tribulation village — useful if Kulki beds are full and you still want to stay north of the river.

Daintree Village

South of the ferry on the river. Handy if you want a river evening and a Cape Tribulation day without paying for a Cape bed.

Cairns

Airport hub and widest hotel range. A Daintree day from here is a long drive both ways — better as a first or last night than trying Mossman and Cape Tribulation in one hit.

Fuel, food, medical — by intent

Last town for fuel and shops is Mossman or Port Douglas before a Cape night. Fill fuel south of the ferry. Cairns is the airport hub and larger hospital. Noah Beach has no shop, no mobile and no fires — pack the stove. Official camping is Queensland Parks only; commercial beds are gateways.

  • Families / first visit: Port Douglas if Mossman is the day; Cape / Cow Bay if you already committed to the ferry and a morning north of the river.
  • Early starts: sleep north of the ferry for Mount Sorrow; do not treat Cairns as a 6am trailhead.
  • Medical: emergencies 000— you need reception. Town clinics are not at Kulki.

Tours around your stay

Optional guided days after you have chosen a base above. Official camping, ferry tickets and the Mossman Gorge shuttle are never affiliated. Kit searches stay on the gear hub.

Guided tours

Optional — useful if you do not want to drive the ferry yourself

A tour does not replace checking Queensland Parks alerts, Be Crocwise, or the ferry yourself.
