Where you start

Dubuji day-use / boardwalk, Cape Tribulation Road

Signed day-use near the Cape Tribulation coastal strip. 2WD. Picnic-oriented precinct. Not Noah Beach camping and not a swim beach.

How to get there

  1. Ferry, then Cape Tribulation Road to signed Dubuji day-use. Conventional 2WD. Slow for cassowaries.
  2. Park in signed bays. Do not overflow onto the road or picnic lawns.
  3. Combine in one easy loop of the day with Madja and Kulki.
  4. Confirm the official journey page for current layout, accessible elements and closures.

How to do it (step by step)

  1. Walk the signed boardwalk. Stay on the structure.
  2. Picnic only in signed day-use. Pack out rubbish. No fires anywhere in the park.
  3. Be Crocwise if you walk toward beach or creek edges. Do not treat this as a swim stop.
  4. Watch for cassowaries in the precinct and on the road. Never feed. Never approach.
  5. If energy remains, add Madja or Kulki — not Mount Sorrow.

What to expect

Dubuji is the picnic-and-boardwalk sibling of Madja. Use it to understand coastal lowland forest and fan palms without a hard walk.

It is not Noah Beach camping and not a swim beach. Some sections may have accessible elements — confirm current status on the official journey page.

Crowds pulse with the ferry. Mid-morning in July holidays is the busy window. Early is quieter.

Who this walk is for

Families, first-timers, wet-season visitors, and anyone who wants a formed path plus a signed picnic. Mixed-ability groups can stop here when Grade 4 is off the table.

If the group wants the headland photo, go to Kulki. If they want mangroves, go to Madja. This page is the forest-floor boardwalk.

Access and day shape

Same ferry and road as Kulki. Easy day shape: Dubuji + Madja + Kulki, then a protected southbound crossing.

Picnic only where signed. Pack out everything. No fires. If you are overnighting, that is Noah Beach — a different booking, height ~3.20 m, no mobile.

Check ferry status and park alerts the morning you drive. Reception is limited.

What to pair (and what not to)

Strong pairs: Madja, Kulki. Weak pairs: Mount Sorrow as a cool-down; a creek swim; Bloomfield.

Cassowaries use this precinct. Slow the car. Never feed. A sighting is not a photo assignment.

Extra tips

  • Good wet-season alternative when remote trails are closed or foolish.
  • Fan-palm and coastal lowland forest are the point — not a long kilometre count.
  • Confirm accessible-element status on the official page if that is why you came.
  • Noah Beach camp is a different precinct, booked QPWS only.
  • Printable day shape: full-day Cape Tribulation or two-day Noah Beach itineraries.

Often paired with Kulki— only if energy and weather allow.
