Baral Marrjanga boardwalk
Area: Mossman Gorge section
Guide updated · Track conditions, shuttle and ferry hours, camping bookings and closures…
Elevated Grade 1 boardwalk at the Mossman Gorge day-use area. The right first 30 minutes after the shuttle. Combine with Lower River and Rex Creek rather than treating it as the whole visit unless mobility requires that.
- Grade 1 elevated boardwalk
- About 30 minutes
- 660 m return
- Effort: easy
- Best for: Wheelchair-assisted and easiest Mossman Gorge start
Distance, grade, time and open/closed status change — verify on parks.qld.gov.au before you go. Facts on this page were checked 12 Sept 2026.

Where you start
Mossman Gorge day-use area
Starts at the day-use area after the Centre shuttle. The Centre says there is no footpath from the car park — take the shuttle (last return 4:30pm, not Christmas Day).
How to get there
- Mossman Gorge Centre via Captain Cook Highway / Johnston Road. No ferry.
- Park at the Centre. Pay the shuttle (adult $15.50 in the 1 Apr 2026–31 Mar 2027 published period). No footpath from the car park.
- Shuttle to the day-use area. Baral Marrjanga starts there. See the Mossman Gorge walks page for the full network.
- Confirm current wheelchair-access status on the official Baral Marrjanga journey page.
How to do it (step by step)
- Walk the elevated boardwalk out and back. About 660 m return, 30 minutes.
- Stay on the structure. Do not step off toward the river.
- Add Lower River / Rex Creek if the group wants more. That is still the same day-use area.
- Do not enter the Mossman River. Official guidance is not to swim.
- Return on the shuttle with margin before 4:30pm.
What to expect
Baral Marrjanga is the easy first boardwalk, not a separate trip from the rest of the Mossman Gorge network. Official: 660 m return, Grade 1, about 30 minutes, elevated.
If you only have 30 minutes at the day-use area, do this well. If you have two hours, combine with Lower River and Rex Creek — that is the Mossman Gorge short walk network page.
Eastern Kuku Yalanji Country. Stay on the structure. The river is for looking.
Who this walk is for
The easiest start after the shuttle. Mixed-ability groups, wheelchair-assisted visitors (confirm current status), and anyone who wants canopy without a Grade 3 circuit.
If the group is fit and restless after 15 minutes, add Lower River and Rex Creek. If they want a granite lookout all day, that is Manjal Jimalji — different start.
Access and day shape
Centre car park → shuttle → day-use area → this boardwalk. Last return 4:30pm, not Christmas Day. No footpath from the car park.
Bail-out is the shuttle. There is no ridge commitment. Picnic at the day-use area if you want more time without more kilometres.
Screenshot Centre hours and park alerts on Wi-Fi before you leave Port Douglas or Mossman.
What to pair (and what not to)
Strong pairs: Lower River Track and Rex Creek Bridge, then the shuttle. Weak pairs: the ferry after lunch; Manjal Jimalji “because we are already at Mossman.”
The full network page is the right next click if you have more than half an hour.

Extra tips
- Confirm current wheelchair-access status on the official Mossman Gorge / Baral Marrjanga page.
- If you only have 30 minutes at the day-use area, do this well.
- If you have two hours, use the Mossman Gorge short walk network page and combine tracks.
- Earlier shuttle = quieter boards in peak dry season.
- This is not Manjal Jimalji. That starts in Whyanbeel.
Often paired with Mossman Gorge walks— only if energy and weather allow.
