Daintree walks & boardwalks

Start with a clear boardwalk vs Grade 4 decision. Mossman Gorge or Kulki plus one easy boardwalk covers most first visits. Distances, grades and times below are planning ranges — always confirm on Queensland Parks and park alerts. Weather, ferry status, shuttle hours and closures change.

Decide before you lace up

  • Easy boardwalks: Baral Marrjanga, Kulki, Madja, Dubuji — high reward, still crocs, heat and peak crowds.
  • Mossman Gorge network: combine short tracks from the day-use area. Do not swim.
  • Hard remote days: Mount Sorrow or Manjal Jimalji — one hero only, early start, 3–4 L water, alerts open.

Trying two hard walks plus the main lookout is how first visits go wrong. Pick the table row that matches the group, then open the trail guide for how to get there.

Walks FAQ

Tap a question to expand the answer.

What is the best first walk in the Daintree?

Most first-timers start at Mossman Gorge (no ferry) or Kulki plus the Madja/Dubuji boardwalks (ferry). Mount Sorrow and Manjal Jimalji are not automatic first-day upgrades. Always verify track status with Queensland Parks.

How hard is Mount Sorrow?

Grade 4, 7 km return, allow 6 hours, no water, no bail-out except turn around. Walkers have been lost. Cool dry-season mornings only. Read the trail page before you pack.

Can I do Mossman Gorge and Mount Sorrow the same day?

Usually a bad plan. Mossman Gorge is a half-day south of the ferry. Mount Sorrow is a full hard day north of the ferry. Pick one.
