Always check
Queensland Parks — Daintree,
park alerts,
ferry status
and
Mossman Gorge getting-here.
Facts on this sheet were checked 16 Aug 2026. This is an independent unofficial guide — not QPWS, not Jabalbina
Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation, not Douglas Shire.
Never merge the four fee systems into one “Daintree entry fee.”
A. Mossman Gorge shuttle (Centre product). B. Daintree River ferry (Douglas Shire / Birdon). C. Noah Beach
camping (Queensland Parks booking). D. No recreational walk permit for the standard day walks or the two Grade 4
trails. This planner never sells the shuttle, ferry tickets, or park camping.
Do not swim in the Mossman River. Cape Tribulation beaches, creeks and the Daintree River are
crocodile country — Be Crocwise. Cassowaries have right of way. Grade 4 walks (Mount Sorrow, Manjal Jimalji)
are whole-day products, not add-ons.
1. Before you leave home

Someone knows your plan and finish time
Emergency+ installed; offline maps downloaded

Grip shoes — wet boardwalk and granite

First-aid; snake bandage on Grade 4 days

Shuttle 8am–5pm every 15 min; last return 4:30pm; not Christmas Day

Baral Marrjanga + day-use boardwalks. Do not swim.
Port Douglas ~30–40 min · Cairns ~80 km / 1.25–1.5 hr
Cape Tribulation (north — ferry for vehicles)
Daintree River ferry is the vehicle chokepoint. 2WD to Kulki / Noah Beach / Mount Sorrow trailhead.
Ferry 5am–midnight daily including Christmas Day
Car/ute from 1 Jul 2026: $35 one-way / $57 return — confirm live
Kulki + Madja + Dubuji. Be Crocwise. Slow for cassowaries.
Mount Sorrow trailhead ~150 m north of Kulki — not an add-on
3. Day-shape decision tree
First visit / morning from Port DouglasMossman Gorge only. Centre, shuttle, boardwalks. Do not put the ferry on this clock.
First rainforest-meets-reef dayEarly ferry, Walu Wugirriga if the sky is clear, Madja + Dubuji, Kulki, protect the southbound queue. No Mount Sorrow.
Family / low energyMossman Gorge boardwalks, or Kulki lookout/beach on formed paths only. No Grade 4. No river swim.
Mount Sorrow or Manjal JimaljiThe whole day. Grade 4. 3–4 L. Early ferry. Turn around at the lookout. Not an add-on after lunch.
Overnight in the parkNoah Beach only — official Queensland Parks booking. Height ~3.20 m. No mobile. No fires. Wet-season close (see §6).
Wet season (~Nov–Apr) / cyclone watchDefault to Mossman Gorge from the south. Skip remote Grade 4. Ferry and Bloomfield can stop. Stingers more frequent.
If two plans both look appealingPick the shorter one. You can always do less once you arrive. You cannot invent daylight on the Captain Cook Highway.
4. Four fee systems (keep separate)
A. Mossman Gorge shuttle — Centre product, not a park walk permit. Published 1 Apr 2026–31 Mar 2027:
$15.50 / $7.75 / $38.75. Multiple trips that day. Centre: no footpath from the car park; shuttle strongly encouraged.
Not Christmas Day. Confirm live on mossmangorge.com.au.
B. Daintree Ferry — Douglas Shire / Birdon (from 1 Jul 2026). Car/ute $35 one-way / $57 return;
bike/pedestrian $7 / $8; 5-return book $143. Hours 5am–midnight including Christmas Day. Status can flip for defects.
Confirm live on daintreeferry.com.au.
C. Noah Beach camping — Queensland Parks booking only. From 1 Jul 2026: $7.75 per person / $31 family
Confirm live. This site never sells the booking.
D. Walk permits — no recreational walk permit for standard day walks or the two Grade 4 trails.
Cultural walks at the Centre are a separate booked product.
5. Ferry & shuttle (the two clocks that fail the day)
Ferry
Pre-purchase / screenshot tickets and hours
Aim to miss the mid-morning northbound queue
Protect a mid-afternoon southbound buffer — do not start a Grade 4 after lunch
Check status the morning you leave (last official stamp seen: 7 Jul 2026 OPEN)
Shuttle
Be on a return shuttle with margin before 4:30pm
Peak dry-season late morning is the busy window
Do not invent parking on Mossman Gorge Road
Café / reset at the Centre is a successful morning — not a failure
6. Noah Beach (only official in-park camp)
Book qld.gov.au/camping or the official Queensland Parks booking service. Display the booking number.
Height ~3.20 m. No caravans, buses or high vehicles. No showers, no generators, no pets. Composting toilets.
No mobile reception at the camp. Pack water, fuel stove, rubbish bags. No fires.
Wet-season close — official pages disagree: camping page = Friday before Christmas → Good Friday; visiting-safely
= first Sunday after NYD → Good Friday. Check alerts before you book or drive.
Max stay 7 nights. Peak demand May–September. Ferry hours still gate arrival and departure.
7. Communications
Limited mobile through much of the park. None at Noah Beach.
Triple Zero (000) needs a signal. Download Emergency+ before you leave town.
We do not publish carrier maps. Treat a satellite messenger as a planning note for Grade 4 and overnight.
Screenshot ferry status, shuttle hours, booking confirmations and alerts on home Wi-Fi.
8. Alerts snapshot (16 Aug 2026 — not live)
No current Queensland Parks Daintree alert page found on that date.
Cape Kimberley planned burn 12–14 Aug 2026 has expired (park-alerts/26843 now 404). Do not plan around a finished burn.
Standing official warnings: crocodiles, marine stingers, cassowaries. No camping on Mount Sorrow or Manjal Jimalji.
Re-check park alerts, ferry status and BOM Cairns the morning you drive.
9. Safety non-negotiables
Do not swim in the Mossman River.
Be Crocwise on beaches, creeks and the Daintree River. Stay back from the water’s edge at dusk.
Cassowaries: slow the car, do not feed, do not approach. They have right of way.
Marine stingers more frequent in the wet. This is not a swimming itinerary.
Mount Sorrow / Manjal Jimalji: walkers have been lost. Stay on the marked trail. Leave the lookout by ~2 pm.
Eastern Kuku Yalanji Country — stay on formed paths; respect cultural sites and Centre guidance.
Emergency: call 000. This PDF cannot help with rescue.
